Contemporary Steam Locomotives

One of the two restored Soo Line steam locomotives is Mikado (2-8-2) 1003, originally displayed in Superior, WI. Restored to service in the late 1990s, the 1003 today occasionally plies the rails of the upper Midwest, mostly in Wisconsin. On this date, the 1003 led an excursion over former Milwaukee Road rails; she is seen here at the town of Milton, WI. While the Soo Line acquired the Milwaukee in 1985, they never served Milton as the rails had been sold to a short line at an earlier date.
