Preserved Soo Line Steam Locomotives
Another preserved Mikado (2-8-2) is the 1011, which the Soo
Line donated to the town of Ladysmith, Wisconsin. This view from 1971 shows
the locomotive looking fairly well maintained, and a proud reminder of the
Soo's glorious steam days. Today in Ladysmith, the 1011 has been joined
by FP7 500A, painted in maroon and gold--ironically, one of the diesels
which helped purge steam from Soo rails! Unfortunately a tornado struck
Ladysmith in 2002, but the displays are likely going to be restored.
