Diesel Locomotives, 1986-1990
Another unit acquired by the Soo Line to fill a motive-power
shortage was SD40 6411. The unit, built as Baltimore & Ohio (Chessie)
7500, had the distinction of being the heaviest SD40 on the Soo's roster,
at over 400,000 pounds, and one of only a handful equipped with dynamic
brakes. The unit was originally acquired on short-term lease from Morrison-Knudsen,
and eventually purchased and repainted for the Soo. The 6411 is seen at
Rockford, MN on January 27, 1990.
