Diesel Locomotives, 1940-1969
Soo Line SW1200 324, an EMD product of 1954, is pictured here
at Enderlin, North Dakota in 1957. The 324, like other diesels, had pushed
steam virtually off the property by 1955, and the presence of diesels had
become a part of daily life for most railroads by this time. It's seen here
resting between switching assignments; note the Chesapeake & Ohio boxcar
in the background. Note too the use of color film, which was still something
of a rarity in the late 1950s, I'm certain especially in rural North Dakota.
