Diesel Locomotives, 1940-1969
OK, so this isn't technically a diesel locomotive, but a caboose.
At any rate, this is a nice portrait of a Soo Line wooden caboose during
the days when they were still legally allowed to be in service to the railroad.
Though rebuilt many times over the years, age eventually caught up to the
old wooden cabooses, and the laws finally required their retirement from
the rails. Soo Line was perhaps unique in running old wooden cabooses into
the 1960s and even into the 1970s in regular service. This portrait of Soo
270 was taken at Jamestown, ND in 1966.
